Looking For A Folding Poker Table? How To Decide

With all the variations and styles available, which should you select? This article helps you get the most bang for your buck, and choosing a folding poker table that is right for you. Since there are so many searches on the search engines every month, there is no shortage of products in different versions being sold. The one you invest your hard earned money into should fit your needs and the those of your poker partners, work with the space you have available for it, and not clean out your bank account.

To keep things simple, poker tables can really be broken down into about 4 categories. Poker table tops, fold up poker tables, folding legs poker tables, and furniture poker tables. 3 of these are able to be folded, while the furniture tables are permanent like a pool table, and are much more expensive.

Poker Table Tops are the least expensive of all since they do not have legs or a frame to add weight, shipping size, and cost. If a large area is not available for a table, these can be used directly on your table in your kitchen or dining room. Your current chairs will work fine. The sizes, shapes, and quality of these tops varies depending on what you want to pay. The wooden base and felt padding on the high end models provides a more genuine casino “plink” sound when splashing the pot. Many also have cushioned arm rests to keep your players comfortable on those long poker nights. On the low end, tops start at about 40-50 dollars, while the high end table tops run in the low 100 dollar range including delivery. They are generally made of a foam material, and do not have armrests. They do tend to have very colorful casino type designs including blackjack, craps, or roulette, in addition to poker. Their light weight also makes them ideal for bringing them to a traveling game. Trays for your poker chips with built in cupholders for your favorite beverage are also commonly seen on these.

Fold Up Poker Tables are the next price range up. These can be delivered for about the 160 to 250 dollars ranges. With the same top of the line features like padding under the felt, arm rests, and cupholders, and the wooden base, the top bi-folds to store them easily. Since the size is cut in half due to the folding top, you will spend considerably less for these than a folding leg table. Shipping dramatically increases with size and weight. Additionally they can be delivered using standard shipping sources instead of an expensive freight company. Additionally, you can store them in less space. One problem is where the the 2 tops meet when you set it up. If you are not careful when dealing, the cards may catch on the crease and flip over. While this is not much of a concern to me, I have been told by some that they would rather pay more to get a solid top than have the fold.

Tables with folding legs resolve the issue. The wood top is one solid piece for a long, smooth playing surface with no obstructions. The drawback is the shipping cost is increased and so is the price, from maybe 300 to 400 dollars. The folding legs still do allow you to store them away but most often by leaning them against a wall, since they are far too large for most closets.

Shapes & Sizes: Folding poker tables come in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on your need. An octagon or round table is usually about 48″ across and ideal for smaller playing areas like apartments and kitchens. They tout that they can seat up to 8 players, but they will not be very comfortable since you will be sitting elbow to elbow. I would limit the number of players to about 6. With room comfortably for 8 or 10 players, The oval tables are 6 to 7 feet long. But these tables are 7′ or 8′ long and up to 4′ across, you should consider the room requirements. Also a chair is needed for each person.

I sincerely hope this has helped you to find a great folding poker table for your game. Aside from playing in Vegas, there is nothing better than running your game on one of these.
