Work To Develop An Intelligent Online Poker Strategy

When considering an effective online poker strategy understand, first of all, that online poker strategies can be slightly different from the strategies that may be applied by players competing in an actual casino. The games are all still the same, but the atmosphere live can be a bit more intimidating than when playing online. This is actually a pretty good thing for those just starting out.

Nowadays, it seems that almost everybody wants to learn to play the holdem games cause they are fairly easy to learn though they’re a bit difficult to do well at. Anybody thinking about online poker should always have a basic strategy, especially when it comes to these holdem games. First of all, you should work diligently at developing quality starting hand selection criteria.

What starting hand refers to is the cards that you are dealt at the beginning of the game. Learning to judge the hands you should stay in on and hands you should fold is very important. Many people think that the two cards dealt in holdem means they don’t have to worry about such things, but they are wrong. You should play tight when you’re just a beginner, meaning folding if your cards aren’t strong.

It’s probably a better idea to keep the adage “tight is right” rather than fooling yourself into believing that any two cards you’re dealt can be improved enough on the river and other deals to the point where you can pull something out consistently. Especially at the beginning, playing tight poker — meaning folding if your two cards aren’t up to speed — is probably a good idea.

Therefore, look at a hand selection strategy that involves examining your position, carefully observing the action that goes on ahead of you and also how strong your own hand is. If you are in an early position that has to act before cards are flopped, play tight. When you’re looking at the action ahead of you (such as raises) you should try to have a strong hand and if not, just fold.

Finally, you should always judge your hand strength relative to your position. If you have an early position, play big pairs or big cards such as the Ace and King or Ace and Queen. If you have the middle positions, most pairs are usually good to open with as well as big cards like the King/Queen and Ace/10 combos. Late positions can play any pair, the big cards or a Jack/10.
